Let the Last Minute Preparations Begin! | Blogmas 2022

23rd December 2022

Happy Christmas Eve Eve!

It’s officially (and very early into) the eve of Christmas Eve and I have nothing prepared.

I am pretty annoyed with myself and am telling myself I’ll have it all organised next year.

I went to the shopping centre on Wednesday and it was overwhelming. I really disliked myself during that experience for leaving preparations to the last minute.

I’ve been feeling stressed and sad about other things which has made it hard to be present this week and enjoy the lead up to Christmas.

Someone said that sometimes they feel more sad than usual around this time of year because “it’s the season to be jolly!” so naturally there’s all these expectations to feel your happiest and most festive. If we’re not feeling all the warm and fuzzies or meeting the expectations we have of ourselves for a festive season, it can feel like a huge let down.

I’m trying to give myself a bit of grace just for showing up for the occasion. I have enjoyed many things in the last few weeks, especially a little Christmas movie here and there. I’m really trying not to oblige myself to too much and since I’m already feeling overwhelmed, I’m starting to tone down my expectations of myself and insert more gratitude.

In planning a festive feast for Christmas Day, I became super stressed. If you read my first blogmas post, you know that last year it was bad bad bad and we ended up ordering take away. This year I wanted it to be better and not only that but BIGGER, MAGICAL and EvErYtHiNg MaDe FrOm ScRaTcH, I don’t know why I had to type it like that, if you get it; you get it. I realise I’m not preparing food for a large group of people and what will Christmas be if I’m just stressing?

So, I think I’ve got an idea of what the Christmas menu will look like. I will be rounding up groceries today and tomorrow as well as starting some cooking preparations.

I thought I’d share my last minute menu for Christmas Day.

Christmas Day Lunch Planning

Appetisers/ Finger food

• Cob Loaf Spinach Dip

Mains

• A Christmas Ham (+ Applesauce to complement)

• Lemon & Garlic Chicken

• Turkey (this one is a maybe. I’m thinking we won’t need much meats for just a few of us. If I do, it will be pre-prepared turkey roast that just needs to go in the oven, don’t judge me)

Sides / Salad

• Egg & Potato Salad

• Roasted Sweet Potato

• Chicken Cesar Salad

Dessert

• Trifle (Mum’s favourite)

• Cake balls

• Cheesecake

Whether it will work out this way, I don’t know. But, there’s a goal and two days to make it happen.

I’m going to stay positive and enjoy my preparations while soaking up the Christmas spirit. I will report back tomorrow night.

Cue the Christmas movie marathon! Starting now…

Merry Christmas and Happy holidays!🎄

  1. I don’t think you’re alone. It’s always a frantic last minute rush in the kitchen for my family. I think that this is part of the full Christmas Eve experience… this and getting sick of eating ham for the next full week.

I think you’re right and that actually takes away the part of me despising myself for the last minute rush. It wouldn’t be a proper Christmas Eve or “Christmas Eve Eve” experience without it, I guess! Thank you!
